Contemporary Learning

Mr Dion Spoljar - Contemporary Learning Leader

Welcome back to all of our students, parents and staff in 2021.

This year, our focus is on analysing and using numerous data sets to assist with directing instruction specifically to the individual student.

Classroom walk throughs will commence soon with visiting teachers set to gather data about the learning experience which will be used to target areas for further improvement, seeking student voice to better personalise learning.

We are working as a whole staff to revitalise our Year 7 and 8 program through the design of new curriculum at this level. This curriculum redesign process allows us to streamline content knowledge and skills, and draw connections across subject fields to heighten student engagement and contextualise learning more purposefully. It also ensures that the diverse learning spaces within the upcoming Junior STEM Centre can be utilised to their fullest potential, with every learning opportunity explored and utilised.

Our Year 9 Project Based Learning experiences continue to grow with the additional of a new unit called Saving Your Energy. This course was created by the team at eduSTEM and the course looks at designing energy efficient housing. It commences with scientific experiments and data analysis involving the concepts of thermal conduction, convection, radiation, and insulation. Students draw on this knowledge to design and test a prototype which they will build.

As always, we are excited about the return of our students and look forward to working with, challenging, and mentoring our students to achieve their potential.
