Principal News

Dear Sacred Heart Community

A sign that things are returning to some normality was evidenced in our first in person School Board Meeting conducted on Tuesday evening. We have not been able to meet in person since early 2020, and all our meetings since have been conducted via the Zoom medium. As always, our board had a very formative discussion about school related matters. Again, I would like to welcome our new Board members for 2021: Liam (dad of Zara Year Two), William (dad of Roman Year Two), Gauri (mother of Veer Year Two) and Geeta (mother of Ria Year Five) who join our existing parent members, Nadine, Amelia, Annemarie, Mark and Elissa and staff representative Jenny.

Bishop Terry Curtin Visit

On Monday our Year Five and Six Confirmation candidates were most fortunate to receive a visit from Bishop Terry Curtin as part of their preparation for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday 26th February. Having had the privilege of hearing Bishop Terry on a number of occasions, I was again impressed with his willingness to impart well chosen words of wisdom on our students. Again I was reminded of his passion in helping all young people to develop into good responsible, caring citizens.

Spoonville

At the end of 2020, our Year Prep and Year One classes created their very own Spoonville which is now on display and greeting all visitors who enter our school foyer.

Beginning of the Year Student Testing

As is the custom at the beginning of each year, our teachers are released to conduct literacy testing with their students. The aim of the testing regime is to ensure that our students are being taught the skills and acquire the knowledge that is necessary for their continued growth and development. As can be seen in the photo below, even our Year Prep students are tested in their first weeks of school to ascertain their oral language skills and their ability to recognise written words.

Visual Art is coming to Sacred Heart

I am pleased to let you know that specialist visual art classes are resuming for our students at Sacred Heart School, after a number of years where the classroom teachers have been responsible for their student's program. Each student will have a 75 minute visual art lesson every fortnight with Marie. Marie has been busy setting up our new art room and planning an exciting and educational arts program for our students in 2021. It is hoped that our very own Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet or Frida Kahlo is unleashed during the year in our visual art classes.

Parents and Friends

A reminder to all mums, dads and guardians that we have our first Parents and Friends meeting tomorrow morning at 9.00am in the staffroom. Being a member of our Parents and Friend's Committee is a great way to be involved in the life of our school, help with both fundraising and social events and to meet other parents. I know Jodi and Elissa would love to see some new members in 2021.

Please stay safe

Yours Sincerely

Mark Tierney
