PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

School Review

Over the next 3 weeks the college will be undergoing its School Review. All schools must participate in a school review every 4 years. Currently, the school review: provides assurance of ongoing compliance with the minimum requirements for school registration and informs the development of the school's future 4 year School Strategic Plan.

During this time Wendy Larcombe has been employed by The Department of Education to scrutinise our teaching and learning practices, curriculum development and policies. Joining Wendy as our Challenge Partners are Jenni Hodgins, Principal of Mount Erin Secondary College and Kirsty Hudson, Assistant Principal from Kunyung Primary School.

Challenge partners are external professionals who provide impartial and invaluable support throughout the review process. They work collaboratively with other members of the panel to bring another perspective to discussions around the school’s data and practices, and take part in fieldwork. This includes classroom observations and focus groups.

Based on their experience and expertise, challenge partners advise the school on strategies to embed improved cultures for learning. They share knowledge and advice which directly assists the school to initiate improvement.

Other members of the Review Panel will be DET School Education Improvement Leader, Stan Szuty, the Principal Team, Leading Teachers Cath Scott and Carrie Bloomfield and College President, Stephen Baker.

I have been a Challenge Partner to 3 schools in the last 2 years, and have found the experience extremely valuable and rewarding. It is a supportive and respectful process that allows the college to celebrate all the hard work by all staff, all students and all families. There will be areas for improvement, the panel will be instrumental in offering ideas on how to address these over the next four years.

Findings of this process and the new 4 year Strategic Plan will be available to the school community by the end of this term.

Should you have any queries around this process, do not hesitate to make contact with me.
