NAIDOC Week in last week of Term 2

We celebrated NAIDOC Week between 4th - 8th July.  NAIDOC week was an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The theme of NAIDOC week this year was:

'get up, stand up, and show up'.

Students participated in a face paintings, played sports and shared activities together.

Goodbye to Ms Alanah!

Staff and Y7 students said 'Goodbye' to Ms Alanah at the end of last term.  Congratulations to her and her family on the birth of their beautiful daughter over the weekend!

Welcome to Aaron Collier!

Hello.  Here's a little bit about me.

I am teaching Y7 for the remainder of 2022.  I've spent the past few years teaching in the southern suburbs, where I live with my wife and newborn son. This is my fifth year teaching and I'm really excited to have joined the team at Clovelly Park.  I enjoy most sports and regularly play Ice Hockey at the Ice Arena for the ‘Adelaide Jokers’ club. I'm also a rather large listener of music and enjoy playing guitar in my free time.

Oz Asia

The Year 3 to 7 students were lucky enough to attend an Oz Asia workshop run by a wonderful artist, Truc.  The Oz Asia Festival is an annual event and one of their goals is to strengthen the relationships between Australia and Asia.  They connect with people of the Asian culture who are currently living in Australia, building and consolidating relationships.  Truc talked to the students about the Oz Asia Festival which runs from the 20th of October until the 6th of November in Adelaide.  They host a variety of different workshops and cultural events during that time.

Truc told the students an Asian folktale called ‘The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl’.  As a response to this story the students created paper birds.  These birds will be on display at the Dunstan Playhouse or the Festival Theatre during the festival.

Variety Children's Charity Sport Day

On Tuesday 2nd of August, classes R2 and G4 were invited to an Activate Inclusion Sports Day event at the Marion Leisure and Fitness Centre. The students enjoyed a day of learning new sports and honed their existing skills.  Pickleball and Tag Rugby were clearly favorites!

“I loved pickleball” – D         “I got a million tags in rugby” – A

Thank you to Variety Children’s Charity and Disability Sports Australia for hosting the event.
