Foundation Buddies

The following reports are from some of our current Year 5 students who will have the privilege of serving as a Year 6 Buddy next year!

Hi I’m Emily and yesterday we had the best day, it was our last orientation and we had three. The first one we did on Thursday the 10th and the second one we did it on Monday the 14th ready to begin. I was also really excited to give my buddies their show bag because in the showbag they got to find out their buddies. I got Sophie, Savio and Jessica. Also, all year 5’s made pencil toppers and I made a pig, frog and penguin for my buddies. On the first day, most of the new preppies looked quite shy. One of my buddies, Savio, when he first came he looked kind of scared of me but when I kept on doing things with him or saying hi, he got more used to it and was less nervous.

Hi, I’m Sierra and yesterday we had our last orientation with the preps. In preparation for them coming, we made them showbags including a card from us saying welcome to the school and that we are their buddy for next year. When my buddy was opening her bag and she saw that I was her buddy she was so happy, it was like she found gold! Something else in the showbag was a pencil with a felt pencil topper, I made a penguin, dog and cat. We all have at least 3 buddies. Mine are Elise, Abigail and Grace. On the first orientation, all the preps were nervous, let alone the buddies ready to see all of them for the first time! By the second time, they sort of met some people and got less nervous.

On Thursday the 10th of November, the new buddies came into their first orientation and had a chance to play with the buddies and other kids entering for foundation 2023. When they came to the gates, they could go and find their names written in chalk by their new buddies! It was very calming yet exhausting somehow but very fun! We also read a story, Mrs. Wishy Washy, which they really enjoyed. They also made medals where they drew themselves and wrote their name. They also received a top that said “I am going to St Cecilia’s in 2023”.

On day 2, which was Monday the 14th of November, we helped them count to 100 from 1-20, 20-40, 40-60, 60-80 and 80-100 and did a Just Dance to I’m a Gummy Bear. We also did a drawing of themself with a caption saying St Cecilia's Foundation 2023.They stayed for a longer time.

At the arrival of day 3, we were hyper because we had found out who our buddies will be. The buddies didn’t know who they were but we kept it a secret for the time and  we played with the buddies on the spiderman playground. It was very fun, them chasing us around and climbing everywhere. It was super hard not to say to our buddies that we were their buddy. The preppies also created ladybugs using red and black pieces of paper and glue. After  snack, we gave the buddies their show bags and they found out who their buddies were. We had heaps of fun and the buddies really enjoyed it.

Hello,

I am Alice and I am Ava and we are year fives soon to be in year six. Ava and I wrote a beautiful welcome letter to the foundations for next year and wrote what they will love here at St Cecilias.

We did the top 20 things that are great in this school. Some things were… our classrooms, sports day, our principal, art lessons, music lessons, especially lunch orders in term 3 and 4 and more.

We helped the foundations and the buddies at the orientations and it was really fun watching all of the foundations find out who their buddies were. The smiles on their faces were massive!

Hello, I’m Ellie and I’m Claudia!

Today, the Year 5’s, soon to be year sixes, are writing about their new buddies for next year.

Ellie’s buddies are Alexis, Isaac and Hudson. They are all so cute and different. When the buddies arrived on Thursday, we had already found out on Wednesday who were our buddies but we couldn’t tell them until the end when they found out!

On their first orientation, everyone was nervous, even us as their buddies. On the second orientation, we were just as excited to see them and it was so suspenseful and secretive who was going to be our buddy because we didn’t find out until the day before the third orientation. The third orientation was so funny to see them react to finding out that we were their buddy and when I saw Hudson’s reaction, it was so heartwarming because he was waving to me with glee. Playing with Isaac was so enjoyable, hearing how happy he was when we both said we liked the same thing or had something in common! The new preppies made lady bugs and they will put their face on them and put them on their class door!

Claudia’s buddies are Sophia, Mia and Gabriel. Sophia was just like me when I was in prep, over the top, but Gabriel and Mia were the opposite. They didn’t care at all. Before any of them found out, my buddy knew it was me and gave me a big hug. At that moment I knew she loved me. They also got a show bag which included a card which we made and a photo of us on it. We also made pencil toppers that took time but we finished in the end. I made a frog, two chickens. With the buddies, we made lots of arts and crafts. My favourite was the lady bugs we made them for the front of the class room. I was worried they wouldn’t finish in time but they ended up turning out really good and they all finished in time.
