THS Performing Arts
Term 4 has been a jam packed season of performances and exhibitions from our spectacular Performing Arts students, highlighting the dedication and passion of our Thornbury High students.
We kicked off the term with our VCE Media Screening in Create Week, showcasing the marvellous films created by our Year 12 and Year 11 media students. Our Year 12 graduates donned their finest to walk the red carpet in celebration of their achievements this year. Congratulations to our award winners; Ella Conroy (Best Picture), Mia Artmstrong (Best Mise-en-scene), Dexter Shackleton (Best Director), and Alicia Ross Smith (Best Cinematography).
Our annual End of Year Concert was a massive success! Emceed by our 2023 Arts Captain Ruby Elliott, our Year 7 and Year 8 full year level bands brought the house down with their rendition of Yothu Yindi’s ‘Treaty’, and White Stripes ‘Seven Nation Army’. Our Year 7 Extension Band’s performance of OutKast’s ‘Hey Ya’, and their collaboration with the Hip Hop Crew on Baker Boy’s ‘In Control’ energised the audience.
In collaboration with the Arts Committee, the Performing Arts Department brought back the annual Talent Show. Massive congratulations to our overall winner Riitta Ruan for her spectacular violin performance of ‘Romanza Andaluza’, by Pablo de Sarasate, our runner up Vedha Chatterjee’s dance performance to ‘Bloodline’, by Ariana Grande, and our Most Creative Performance Winners; Anika Menz, Matilda King, Riitta Ruan, Sam Agnew, Olive Quin, Poppy Winter and Yilin Chuang musical ‘Six’, from Six the Musical.
To close the year on a high note the music department brought staff and students a series of lunchtime concerts, showcasing new repertoire from our small ensembles, and music clubs including; the Year 7 Extension Dand, clarinet, flute, and saxophone ensembles, and our brand new ‘Thornbury Rocks’ bands ‘The Locals’ and ‘The Unnamed’.
A massive congratulations to all of our performing arts students for your incredible work this year.
