School Wide Positive Behaviours at Heathmont

School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support at Heathmont College

School-wide positive behaviour support (SWPBS) is a framework that brings together school communities to develop positive, safe and supportive learning cultures. SWPBS assists schools to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for children and young people. We are excited to be a SWPBS school.

The first step in this process was an extensive investigation into what our community values. This took place in 2021. Several consultations were conducted to identify the key attributes that were most valued by our students, our staff, and our families. As a result of these consultations and subsequent review and analysis, we developed a new set of values that we believe better reflect the current Heathmont Community.

Our school values that were launched in 2022 are:

  • Curiosity
  • Compassion
  • Community

The next step in the SWPBS process was to identify the expected behaviours of people in our college community that centre around our three core values. Discussions around these behaviours took place in Flourish lessons as well as in student and staff focus groups. The results of these discussions are displayed in our Behavioural Expectation Matrix. The matrix clarifies what our behaviours should look, sound and feel like. Our expected behaviours as listed in the matrix will be explicitly taught in all classrooms and consistently reinforced throughout the school.

Please take the time to look at the matrix and discuss as a family.
