GRADE 1-2 UPDATE

Hello Grade 1 and 2 Community,

For Reading this week we looked at information texts, continuing our focus on what we can do to be healthy. Students began investigating what the main idea of a text piece can be and in doing so learnt about healthy foods, the importance of drinking water and ways to protect ourselves from colds.

Students applied their knowledge of healthy habits in Writing, enthusiastically creating beautiful posters detailing healthy habits. It was great to see great pride taken in the creation of these fabulous posters.

For Mathematics Demy’s class investigated capacity. Students had a blast measuring capacity using various containers outdoors. Lauren’s class explored 2D and 3D shapes. Students played games categorising shapes according to their properties and enjoyed playing the ‘Mystery Shape’ game in their math's pairs.

Finally, Demy’s class were overjoyed to welcome the newly hatched chickens residing in the classroom this week. Having hatched Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning, it was fantastic to see how considerate the students were in making the classroom feel safe.

Upcoming events/reminders:

  • We once again want to thank all our families for their support in ensuring reading is practised nightly.
  • Please ensure students bring their library books to school on Wednesday so they can return and borrow books.
  • Lauren’s class will be hosting assembly on Monday. Parents are absolutely welcome to attend. Students will be sharing recent work they are proud of with the school.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend,

Lauren & Demy
