The students in year 7 have been participating in a weekly social skill program focusing on Social Thinking. Social thinking is what we do when we interact with people- we think about them. How we think about people affects how we behave, how others respond to us and our own emotions. The social skills sessions help develop the students’ skills to think about others and how to modify their behaviours in response. Sessions develop theory of mind, perspective, self-awareness and others, body language, the way we talk, conversation skills and assertiveness.
For this term we are focussing on respect which is one of the school values. It is one of the most important values everyone should have. This will ensure that students can develop positive relationships with their family, friends and community throughout their life. Respect is taught in multimodal teaching style that includes YouTube, roleplay and worksheets. These sessions will promote and encourage the students to treat others the way they want to be treated.
