Year 10 to 12

Year 12 Valedictory Dinner, Year 12 Final Assembly & Celebration Day and Year 12 Exams

We recently held two very successful celebratory events for our Year 12 Class of 2022.

The Year 12 Valedictory Dinner at The Grand Receptions in Cathies Lane in Wantirna was attended by over 400 parents, students and teachers. A great night was had by all, as we celebrated the achievements of our students, dined, chatted and strutted our stuff on the dance floor (even doing the limbo!). It was a wonderful opportunity for our Year 12 students to be acknowledged for all their hard work and effort. The students and parents were also able to thank the teachers and coordinators who have supported students through their secondary school journey.

The Final Assembly and Celebration Day marked the Year 12 students’ last day of school before their examination period.

The assembly included presentation of the EDSC Year 12 certificates and various achievement awards. Students were treated to an inspiring speech by one of our EDSC Alumni, Saraid Taylor. She is an amazing example of how you can juggle multiple ambitions and interests. Finishing school, Saraid followed her passion for writing, completing a Bachelor of Arts in screen-writing at the College of the Arts at the University of Melbourne. During this time, she continued to play elite level basketball for the South Side Fliers, being a member of their WNBL championship team in 2020. Outside writing and sport, Saraid also works for the Heartwell Foundation who provide Physical Education and rehabilitation services to young people with disabilities or illness. 2022 has been a stellar year for this EDSC Alumni! As well as winning multiple writing awards, such as the Nillumbik Prize and the Ada Cambridge Short Story Award, she has signed a publishing deal for her debut novel “Flinch”. On top of this she was also signed by Richmond Football Club, to play AFLW for season 7. But all of these achievements didn’t come without set backs and rejections. Saraid was able to offer perspective on the power of persistence and resilience. Valuable lessons for all of us.

Following the assembly, Year 12 students had an enjoyable lunch in the upper courtyard, changed into their “modified uniforms” and got them signed and then donned white t-shirts for the much-anticipated Colour Run. Let’s just say, the before and after photos told the story of the Colour Run! The day ended with much laughter and fun, as students (and some teachers!) ended up looking very colourful! A wonderful way to end the celebrations.

The following week, it was down to business again with the English and EAL Exams kicking off the VCE Written Examination Period. Our students were praised by the Chief Exam Supervisor for their conduct throughout the exams. They did themselves proud.

Now comes the wait for the release of results on 12 December and the planning of the next great adventure for our students!

Child Safety and Wellbeing at East Doncaster Secondary College: information for families and the school community

The Victorian Government has announced new Child Safe Standards to further strengthen child safety across organisations, including schools. The new standards recognise the critical importance of families and the broader school community in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing.

East Doncaster Secondary College has reviewed and updated our child safety policies and procedures to ensure they meet the requirements of the new standards. These are available to view on our school’s website, on a Compass News Feed, at the school’s Reception.

We are committed to continuous improvement in our approach to child safety and wellbeing and welcome feedback from families and members of our school community on ways we can further strengthen our child safety policies, procedures and practices.

If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, please contact the Principal, John Roberts or Assistant Principal, Cameron Campbell.

Student Medical Expenses

Parents/carers are reminded that they are liable for all medical expenses incurred as a result of a student’s injury or medical need, including transport costs such as ambulance costs (this may include an air ambulance should that be considered necessary).

Parents/carers are responsible for any medical expenses (including ambulance costs) incurred if their child is injured or requires medical treatment or an ambulance while at school or participating in a school activity.

Parents/carers may not be called if an ambulance is required, until after an ambulance is called, depending on the situation. The College staff will use their judgment as to what action to take in cases of a student’s accident or sudden illness.

We encourage parents/carers to have up-to-date ambulance cover and medical insurance.

Damage to Students’ Personal Items/Property

Parents/guardians are reminded that any personal item/property that is brought to school by a student is the responsibility of the student and is not the responsibility of the school and is not covered by school insurance. Refer to Personal Possessions Of Students Policy in the EDSC Policy handbook on the College website. Students are responsible for personal items/property they bring to school. Neither the Department nor the school is responsible if any student’s personal item/property is lost, stolen or damaged.
