Instrumental Music Assessments

Students learning an instrument at school are currently undertaking their Cycle 6 assessments. Generally these take the form of a ‘mini-exam’ and require the performance of technical work and set pieces. So far the Music staff have been impressed with the level of preparation demonstrated in assessments, and if yours is coming up it’s a good time to step up the home practice!

Ensembles Finishing Up

Our performance ensembles are wrapping up for the year, although Chamber Strings and Stage Band are still working towards Presentation Night on Tuesday 13 December. Please check Compass as rehearsals may take place at different times from normal during the next few weeks.

Selected students will also be demonstrating their instruments for our 2023 Year 7 cohort at Orientation Day on Tuesday 13 December.

Return of Instruments

Students who are hiring school musical instruments need to return them to their teacher after completing their Cycle 6 assessment. All instruments need to be checked over by music staff for maintenance and stocktaking.

It may be possible to borrow an instrument for the school holidays, but this is on a case-by-case basis after the return and assessment of the instrument.

Students are strongly encouraged to purchase their own instrument after their first year of learning, as preference for school hire instruments goes to new Year 7 students. Perhaps consider a new instrument as a present!

NEVR String Workshop

Some of our string players are participating in the annual North Eastern Victoria Region String Workshop from Monday to Wednesday next week at Blackburn High School. Parents will need to ensure that they provide consent for this activity on Compass and students need to go directly to Blackburn on each day of the workshop.
