Principal's Report

Senior School Student Leadership in 2023

As we move through the extremely busy Senior School examination period, I wanted to report to our College community that we have completed the process to elect our Senior School student leaders for 2023.

After addressing their peers in an assembly shortly before the commencement of our Year 11 exams, we had several prospective candidates deliver high quality speeches outlining their visions for student leadership at our College.

I was impressed with the messages that conveyed a focus not just on the leadership of our Year 12 students for next year but their vision for what student leadership opportunities will be possible from a whole-College perspective. We heard clear messages of inclusion, responsibility, opportunity and student connection.

We are very proud of these students and are looking for them to be highly influential in leading our student body in 2023.

It is my pleasure to announce that are our School Captains and are our School Vice-Captains for 2023 are:

Year 7 2023 Parent Information Evening

On Monday evening we hosted our future students and their parents for an information session as part of a successful transition process from primary to secondary school. Our large audience appeared both excited with the prospect of starting secondary school and eager to gather as much information as possible in all aspects of this transition period. A highlight was listening to our current Year 7 student, Akshaya Vuppala speaking with great confidence about her experiences transitioning to East Doncaster. We were also entertained by the Chamber Strings ensemble under the guidance of Carl Williams at the beginning of the evening.

My message to the parents and families joining our College for the first time was an invitation to them to be active participants in their child’s education here at East Doncaster Secondary College to feel that their aspirations can be realised by our joint capacity to educate and develop the personal growth of their sons and daughters.

We look forward in anticipation to have our new Year 7 cohort join us in December for their Orientation Day.

Year 7 2023 Orientation Day

We will be conducting our Orientation Day on-site at our College for all our Year 7 students in the class of 2023 on Tuesday 13 December.

VCE Exams Conclude

The final of the Year 12 VCE examinations was conducted on Wednesday 16 November.

I would like to congratulate our Year 12 cohort for the manner in which they conducted themselves, not just during the exam period but certainly over the course of this busy and challenging final term of their secondary schooling.

We all now wait with a sense of anticipation until the VCE results are published on Monday 12 December.

An update on those results will be communicated in the final Newsletter of the school year.

Our Year 11, 10 and 9 examination period has also been completed. Our teachers are in the process of assessing the examination papers and the results will be reflected in the Cycle 6 reports available on Thursday 15 December.

Awards and Presentation Nights

We have two very important awards events coming up over the next few weeks.

On Thursday 8 December, we will have the VCAL Awards ceremony for our students at Doncaster Secondary College.

On Tuesday 13 December, the College will hold our annual Presentation Evening.

Venue: New Hope Community Centre

3 Springfield Rd

Blackburn North VIC 3130

Time: 7.00pm

Both of these events are important opportunities to celebrate student aspiration and achievement and we would hope that they will be well supported by our College community.

ELC Graduating Class of 2022

I was very pleased and proud to have been able to address our English Language Centre students yesterday at the College as they participated in their graduation celebration.

It is very rewarding to see how much these students have learnt and grown in their relatively short stay thus far at our College.

We look forward to them joining our VCE classes in 2023.

College Arrangements for next week

From next Monday 28 November, the College will roll over to a new timetable for our 2023 Advance Program.

The year level teams and College timetabler, do an enormous amount of work to have the program ready so that we can get a ‘head start’ on next year. Sometimes, students are uncertain about or unhappy with the class they have been allocated to or a subject they have been given. We ask that if you have any concerns with the 2023 program that you make contact with the relevant Year Level Coordinator during the Advance Program period. Some changes may be possible but many may be unlikely due to the complexity of the timetable.

On Monday 28 November, our Year 11 students become Year 12s and our Year 10 students become Year 11 students for the one-week VCE Orientation Advance Program. Students will start their 2023 program. The last day of the year for Year 11s and 10s is at the end of this Advance week (Friday 2 December from 3:15pm). Students will be given some holiday homework to prepare for next year.

Middle School Students

From Monday 28 November to Friday 9 December, students in Years 7-9 will work to their 2023 timetable as part of the two-week Advance Program. The formal educational program will conclude on Friday 9 December at 3:15pm.
