What are the students doing?

Que font les élèves?

On Monday, we welcomed The Tech Girls Movement Foundation to CJC to deliver a workshop designed to help create an entrepreneurial mindset and build confidence in female students.

Our Year 5 girls worked in teams to design a solution to a real world issue they believed in. They then designed an app to help people overcome the chosen issue, and pitched their idea to a 'panel'. The creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills demonstrated were outstanding.

On Monday the 5th of December, all the year 5 girls participated in a tech girls workshop. We spent the whole day learning about how to be an entrepreneur and how to start our own app. We were put in 6 random groups so that we could work with different people and we spent the day working on how to create an app. We had to come up with a logo and a name for our app. We also did a pop quiz on how many women we know have created something or achieved something around the world. One of my favourites was Malala Yousafzi. She stood up for women’s education even being shot 3 times. She is still alive and still standing up for education for girls all over the world. Then each group got a paper clip and we were given 2 minutes to come up with as many ideas of what we could do with it. Our group came up with 19 ideas but the others came up with more than 30 ideas so we knew for next time that we would need to think out of the box. Everyone had an amazing time and we hope to do it again!

On Monday the 5th of December, the year 5 girls participated in a tech girls workshop. We learned about building our own  business/ app and being an entrepreneur. We were put into groups randomly and  were placed with girls we may not have known very well. We did a pop quiz on how many female entrepreneurs we knew. A few female entrepreneurs and activists to list are: Melanie Perkins ( invented canva), Malala Yousafzai (fought for girls to have an education) and Greta thunberg (climate change activist). After that, we were asked to list all the things a paper clip can do except for holding paper. We all came up with very creative ideas such as replacing a zip, making jewellery, doing arts and crafts and even cutting cheese. Then our busy morning was over. Once we got back inside, we went back to our groups and started our project.

We had to think of a local problem that affected our community. Then we had to design an app to help with that problem. Everybody had to think of a logo and name and also how that app would help. Finally at the end of the day we all presented our ideas. Everybody had amazing ideas. It was such a memory making experience.
