Music Matters

It has been wonderful to hear the sound of music floating throughout the corridors as our Music ensembles and tuition lessons have commenced rehearsals again this week. I’ve included the timetable for ensemble rehearsals below (there have been a couple of changes since last week’s publication – please check carefully). It is certainly not too late to join! Please get your son to either talk directly to the ensemble director, or feel free to either email myself awesthoff@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au  or Ms Stella Talati

stalati@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au  for more information.

Please note, there has been an increase in ensemble fees to $270 this year. This is per student, not ensemble. This fee assists with the payment of external ensemble directors and the purchase of all music. We are extremely blessed to have such extremely skilled, dedicated and talented musicians on staff as our ensemble directors. This fee will now be paid by parents directly via Trybooking and a link will be sent out soon.

There is a new Rock Band ensemble being started by our new classroom teacher, Mr Brendan Jones. Rehearsals are starting this week and will be held on Thursdays. If you are a singer, guitarist, bass guitarist, keyboard player or drummer he would love to hear from you. Come and see him in the Music Staff Room or email bjones@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au

For Music Tuition lesson information and enquiries please email Mr Stephen Cummins scummins@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au. Links for private tuition hire are available on the College portal.

I’m looking forward to witnessing the talents and hard work of our young musicians throughout the year in a range of performance opportunities.

Senior Music Excursion - a Date for your Diaries

The Music staff (Mrs Christine Lewis, Mr Brendan Jones and myself) are excited to be taking the Elective Year 11 and 12 Music students to see ‘Encore’, the best of the 2022 HSC Music performances and compositions. This will take place at the Sydney Opera House on Monday 27 February commencing at 7.00 pm. Students are asked to meet their teachers at the venue and more details will be sent home soon. This is an interesting and entertaining concert which will provide our HSC students with ideas and inspiration for the submission and performance of their own works.

Drama Matters

OnSTAGE 6 February 2023 at The Seymour Centre

OnSTAGE is held every year in February, at the Seymour Centre, Chippendale. The program features exemplary group and individual performances, script writing and video drama by 2022 HSC Drama students. Students from Pius were nominated in both Individual and Group Projects but were unfortunately not selected to perform this year. It is an excellent opportunity for students in Years 11 & 12 to see an array of outstanding performances and projects. The numerous ideas, creativity and skill on display allows students to understand firsthand what is possible to achieve in their practical examinations. The elusive GP & IP become concrete attainments and challenges. It is always a galvanising start to the year!
