ISA Round 7 Fixtures – Saturday 11 February 2023

1st XI v Oakhill College @ TBA (10.00 am start)

2nd XI v Oakhill College @ TBA (10.00 am start)

ISA Round 7 – 1st XI 4/114 defeated Oakhill College (10/113) @ Oxford Falls #1

Oakhill 113 (Jesse Mansbridge 2-12, Mitchell McGrath 2-20, Andrew May 2-20)

St Pius X 4-114 (Joel Austin 60, Will Pavely 20 not out, Patrick Frost 18)

We welcomed Oakhill to a tremendous scene at Oxford Falls with a top-class pitch and outfield prepared by our ground staff. Joel Austin again lost the toss and SPX were in the field first. Opening bowlers Jesse Mansbridge and Mitchell McGrath gained early breakthroughs while a run out and a catch behind by Oliver Freeman from Andrew May saw the opposition at 5 for 22. A recovery was slowly made by their middle and late order batsmen but Flynn Pavely’s economic seven overs, Lachlan Jursevic’s deserved wicket and a 10 over spell from Manas Bansal meant the innings was wrapped in the 47th over for 113. The batsmen were determined to take responsibility and Joel Austin and opening partner Patrick Frost certainly did this in a half century stand. Joel played strokes all around the wicket to bring up his own 50 and was supported by Will Pavely’s steady hand. A six wicket victory was secured in the 31st over in a very solid Round 7 performance which puts the team in second place on the table.

Strength and Conditioning

Strength and Conditioning sessions have commenced in the Sarto Gym. A reminder, the morning session stars at 7.15 am sharp and concludes at 8:05 am (this allows students ample time to change into full school uniform). The after-school evening session starts at 3.30 pm sharp and concludes at 4.30 pm. Students must be in their school uniform or full sports uniform when leaving the gym. During the first week back students can expect each session to have a 15-minute safety and general program induction in which coaches will explain the new program structure and specifically go over technique and skills and gym safety. It is during this time students MUST have their permission form signed by a coach.

Due to ongoing building construction, there will be no wifi or pre booking system available in the Sarto Gym until Week 4. Therefore, to ensure appropriate numbers and to allow quality use of facilities, during Week 1-3 students have been allocated training times for each year group. Please respect the scheduled times. Students will be asked to leave if they are not in their correct time slot.

Committee Positions

All basketball committee positions will become vacant in 4 weeks.  I will be around to assist with handover whilst my son finishes Year 12.

The basketball committee is important for your sons as it supports the Basketball Program and raises money, via the canteen + other activities, funds that go directly into basketball.

The commitment takes only a few hours per season.  Please email me if you are interested in being involved or would like to be included on a regular information list.

Simon Dixon - bbstpiusx@gmail.com

Canteen – Basketball – Oxford Falls

The canteen, run by parents, is the main fundraising basketball income.

This is my last week running the canteen – if you are interested in helping out next season this Saturday is your chance to drop in and see how easy it is to volunteer.

Usually, volunteers join a roster so they can help out before their son’s game.  Email or just turn up. Simon Dixon - bbstpiusx@gmail.com
