Celebrating at Coraki and - new pool? Attend school and see!

New Surface

Tradesmen were busy at school in the last week of Term 2. First, we had the new surface laid under the COLA (Covered Over Learning Area). It was then sanded smooth. This needed to be done twice (unfortunately).

We played and ate in the Fairy Garden while this was happening, to avoid the dust as much as we could. On the last day of term, it was painted a bright blue.

The colour looks great and Mahni thought it was a new swimming pool when she first saw it from a distance! Handball courts were painted on it in the holidays and now it is all ready to play on again. But no swimming, sadly…

NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week was held 4-11 July 2021. NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is celebrated by all Australians and is a great opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Because this date was in the holidays, we celebrated a little earlier by going to Coraki Public School on Wednesday, 23rd June.

We joined with the staff and students of Coraki PS in a number of activities, such as craft, games and eating! There were kangaroo sausages, johnny cakes, patty cakes iced in the colours of the Aboriginal Flag as well as traditional dancers and wool winding.

Community members joined the celebrations and we even took an ex-student along! Uncle

Elliot is a former student of the school and he shared some stories and memories with us all as well.

We thank the staff and students at Coraki school for a fun, filling and informative day.

Parent Interviews and Reports

Thanks to parents and carers who came to school for a chat about the progress of their child/ren. Open lines of communication are always important and education is a joint process between school and home. Reports have been handed out or posted. Please contact the school if you haven’t received your child’s progress report, or if there are any issues we need to discuss.

Attendance

Consistent attendance at school is so important to the academic and social progress of children. In Term 3 we continue to target improved attendance.

Targets have been set and rewards are in place. If we reach our target with whole school attendance, we will invite the mobile Skirmish team to come to the school for a great day of fun. Individual excellence in attendance will be rewarded by a lunch and movie day.

More than four days absence in a term takes your child into the zone of poor attendance. Obviously, sickness happens, but avoidable absences can be decreased. Please help us achieve these goals by sending your child or children to school when they are well.
