The Premier’s Reading Challenge has been extended

The NSW PRC posted on Instagram their decision to extend the Challenge by 2 weeks with the new finish date, Friday 3 September.  In addition, students can now read 10 books on the PRC Reading List (rather than 15) and 10 own choice books. Both changes are in consideration of students’ restricted access to books in the current Lockdown.

Students looking for their next read, will find plenty of inspiration in our school’s top 100 PRC book collection. Many of the top titles are available as ebooks AND with over 500 ebooks in the PRC collection, there is plenty of choice.

According to the PRC Rules, students in Year 7 -9 can read from both lists:

5-6 Years PRC Reading List ebooks

7-9 Years PRC Readling List ebooks

Our library catalogue has also been updated with the latest version featuring a 2 minute video on how to borrow an ebook.

Snowy Hike 2021- Reminder for Expressions of Interest

Plan for the Best - Hope for the Best

All Year 11 Parents should have received an email containing an information package for the Year 11 Snowy Hike Expedition. This voluntary expedition takes place in the last week of school in Term 4.  Students finish school slightly earlier to allow this opportunity to take place.

The link will open 6.00 pm Friday 9 August

A reserve list is also created via this link.

Fortunately, experience from 2020 showed that lockdowns do end, and opportunities do open up for our students. As such, we are maintaining our timeline and planning phase for the 2021 Year 11 Snowy Hike. The restrictions around COVID-19 protocols are being monitored and we will make informed decisions based around NSW Health and other relevant policies and recommendations as we move forward. The health of our students and staff is the utmost priority.

Traditionally, this activity involves your son hiking through the Kosciuszko National Park. This is a 5-6 day walk across some of the most rugged country in Australia. Typically, the route goes from Round Mountain, near Cabramurra, through the Mt Jagungal wilderness onto the main range to Mt Kosciuszko and Thredbo (conditions permitting). An alternate route may be required depending upon National Park requirements and any restrictions in Thredbo.

Departs:  Thursday 2 December, meeting at 7.00 pm for approx. 9.00 pm departure from St Pius X College, Anderson St.

Returns:  Wednesday 8 December at approx. 4.00 pm.

If you are interested in this activity for your son, please check your email regarding timelines, payment and the enrolment procedure. The link will open 6.00 pm Friday 9 August and works on a first in first served basis. A reminder that a reserve list is also created via this link.
