Year 12 ATAR Camp

In Week 3 the Year 12 ATAR class, accompanied by Miss Jury and Miss Sharpe travelled to Perth for their annual ATAR camp. Students visited Muresk Institute, CBH’s grain port and Murdoch and Curtin Universities to investigate post-school opportunities. Students enjoyed visiting the Murdoch University Anatomy Museum, Curtin University’s Centre of Cropping and Disease Management and the CBH observation deck which oversees the loading of export ships. Students also got to participate in a tutorial about bleeding cattle at Muresk which was run through the NAMP project. These opportunities allowed students to further industry relationships and contacts, understand university entry requirements and inspired students to broaden their knowledge in their ATAR programs to achieve newly set goals.

Chicken Trial

Throughout Term 3 the Animal Production System students, led by Miss Jury, are undertaking an investigation to analysis the benefits of three different types of chicken feed that vary in protein, fibre and fat content. The aim is to determine which feed results in the biggest increase in weight on average in day old chickens. The students are required to care for the chickens over a six-week period ensuring they are fed, watered and provided with substantial heat while monitoring their weight gain weekly. The students are enjoying caring for the chickens while learning investigative processes and implementing best scientific practice.
