VET OFFERINGS

A full range of VET offerings are available to students at Red Cliffs Secondary College. 

You can complete the following subjects as part of your regular timetable (offered on-site at Red Cliffs Secondary College).  The titles of each subject are a link to the relevant section on the VCAA study design website

SIT20416 - CERTIFICATE II IN KITCHEN OPERATIONS

Is a career as a chef your passion? Then our entry level Kitchen Operations course is a great way to start!

This two-year part-time course is an excellent introduction to kitchen operations. The basic knowledge and skills developed in the fully functioning kitchen focuses on preparing, cooking and plating food. You will also receive a Food Handlers Certificate. 

 

This course opens the doors to a range of entry-level jobs such as an Apprentice Chef, Caterer, Food & Beverage Assistant, Kitchen Hand, Food stylist.

 

To be awarded the SIT20416 Certificate II in Kitchen Operations, students must demonstrate competency in fourteen (14) units of competency.

  • Use food preparation equipment
  • Prepare dishes using basic methods of cookery
  • Clean kitchen premises and equipment
  • Use hygienic practices for food safety
  • Maintain the quality of perishable items

  • Communicate in the workplace
  • Prepare appetisers and salads
  • Prepare stocks, sauces and soups
  • Prepare vegetable, fruit, egg and farinaceous dishes

BSB20120 - CERTIFICATE II IN WORKPLACE SKILLS  NEW 2021

Are you looking to pursue a career in the business industry? Then our entry level business course is a great way to start!

This one year course is an excellent introduction to a business environment.  It will provide you with the knowledge, skills and competency that will enhance your training and employment prospects within a broad range of business and industry settings. 

 

This course opens the doors to a range of entry-level jobs as a junior administrative employee in the business industry.

 

To be awarded the BSB20120 Certificate II Workplace Skills students must demonstrate competency in ten(10) units of competency.

ICT30118  Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology (2 years, partial completion)

Are you looking for a career in the information, digital media and technology industry? Then our entry level information technology course is a great way to start!

This two-year part-time course is an excellent introduction to information, digital media and technology industries and related industries.

 

This course opens the doors to a range of entry-level jobs in the ICT industry.

 

To be awarded the partial completion of the ICT30118  Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology must demonstrate competency in twelve (12) units of competency.

  • Participate effectively in WHS communication and consultation processes
  • Work and communicate effectively in an ICT environment
  • Run standard diagnostic tests
  • Care for computer hardware
  • Provide basic system administration
  • Create user documentation

  • Install, configure and secure a small office or home office network

CUA30915 - CERTIFICATE III IN MUSIC INDUSTRY

Are you looking to break into the music industry? Then our entry level music industry course is a great way to start!

This two-year part-time course is an excellent introduction to music industry with a specialisation in either Performance or Sound Production.

 

While studying this course students are provided with the knowledge, skills and competency that will enhance their employment prospects in the music and creative arts industries.

 

To be awarded the CUA30915 Certificate III in Music Industry, students must demonstrate competency in eleven (11) units of competency.

MST20616 -  CERTIFICATE II IN APPLIED FASHION DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY

Are you looking to break into the fashion industry? Then our entry level fashion course is a great way to start!

This two-year part-time course is an excellent introduction to fashion design and related industries, covering basic knowledge and skills in pattern making, garment design and garment construction. You will create your own fashion items and learn hands-on!

 

While studying this course students are given an overview of fashion design and pattern making teaching them the skills to create garments from their own designs. It also provides an insight into the workings of the fashion industry.

 

This course opens the doors to a range of entry-level jobs in the clothing industry.

To be awarded the MST20616 Certificate II in Applied Fashion Design and Technology, students must demonstrate competency in thirteen (13) units of competency. 

YEAR ONE

  • Work safely
  • Use a sewing machine for fashion design
  • Apply quality standards
  • Modify patterns to create basic styles
  • Produce a simple garment
  • Identify fibres, fabrics and textiles used in the TCF industry
  • Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices

YEAR TWO

  • Make a simple headpiece
  • Draw and interpret a basic sketch
  • Design and produce a simple garment
  • Identify design process for fashion designs
  • Embellish garment hand or machine
  • Prepare design concept for a simple garment

OFF – SITE VET Subjects:

We can offer access to a vast range of off-site VET courses through TAFE, RiversideTrade Training Centre, and Deakin Trade Training Centre.  To discuss these options and what is available, please see Mrs. Julia Lewis, Careers/Pathways Co-ordinator at Red Cliffs Secondary College.

If you complete an off-site VET course, you will be out of school 1-day per week. Your teachers will assist you in compensating for this time off by modifying your expected classwork.
