During Terms One and Two, the Grade 3/4 students investigated the feelings and emotions they experienced during 2020, especially during the long lockdown.

They were asked to think of a time that had an impact on them (good, bad or in between) and represent this moment in time with an animal that speaks to that feeling eg: "I chose a sloth because I was bored and sloths are sleepy and boring."

During the process, students also had to consider the whole story by representing those feelings/emotions by using the appropriate colours, lines and textures to support that story.  This is individual for each student, for example, light blue might represent sadness to one student and happiness to another. This is valid as long as it can be justified with evidence.

We are working on going to the next level of art by not just making art that is pleasing to the eye, but also tells a story and gives the audience something to think about.

This is a more difficult concept for the students, however, when you talk to your child ask them about the story behind their art. It really adds to your understanding of their experiences in 2020 and helps to reinforce their ability to tell stories through images.

Well done to Grade 3 and 4, it was a challenging activity!!
