Year 7

Big Sister Little Sister

The purpose of the Big Sister Little Sister program is to promote relationships between students across year levels, to enable Year 7 students to feel a sense of belonging and connectedness to Kilbreda and to provide an opportunity for older students to develop skills in leadership.

Feeling connected to the community promotes a sense of belonging. Relationships are integral to this process. The Big Sister Little Sister Program aims to increase connectedness where each student feels cared for and valued. It aims to broaden the support network within the school and to build a positive school community. The program also aims to promote inclusiveness with a culture of tolerance and empathy.

First term’s theme focused on goal setting and organisation. The girls were involved in a range of activities that encouraged this. This term’s theme focuses on communication and friendships. We look forward to sharing time together learning about the importance of active listening, communication and respectful relationships.

Academic News

Year 7 Homework Club continues every Wednesday during lunchtime this term.  Girls are encouraged to make use of the opportunity offered to receive one-to-one assistance across a range of different subject areas.

As we settle down for Term 2 it is the perfect time for your daughters to think about: What are their goals are for this year? What are their strengths and weaknesses? Do they have a study timetable? Are they using their planner effectively?

We encourage all students to have a study timetable and adhere to it, to make schedules for completion of assessment pieces and to spend time at home organising notes and worksheets in folders. At the start of each week, girls are encouraged to be organised, perhaps writing a list of all the tasks they have to have completed in the week. As they tick things off their list they will feel a sense of accomplishment.

One of the most effective things they can do to achieve at school is to develop the following habit: EVERY time they finish a topic at school they should spend a little time making some study notes on that topic. This is a great way to revise and will help in your journey throughout the school year.

Year 7 students will participate in Elevate Study Skills program.   Elevate's high impact seminars and workshops help students improve their study techniques, increase motivation and build confidence. For more information on this upcoming program, see HERE
