Sport Captain

The end of Term 2 and the start of Term 3 have been very busy in the Sport department. We have sent our Cross Country runners away to represent the College at CaSSSA Cross Country 2021.  They performed outstandingly.  Although we finished seventh, we still picked up two second places in the 13 years and 17 years and a first place pennant in the 12 years.  A huge congratulations to all the girls who participated on the day.  You made the College proud.

On the first day back this term we had our inter-house Cross Country finally, after being postponed since Easter due to the Covid19 lockdown (as for 2020 and the cyclone which stopped us in 2019).  A massive congratulations to Villa Spada, Charli Ryan (House Captain), and Miss Holley (House Guardian) on leading the house to success, with both the overall winners and participation award.  A shout out also goes to Lucy Bliss for having the fastest feet in the College.

On the note of Cross Country, last weekend three of our athletes - Charli Ryan, Lucy Bliss, and Ella Shakel - ran in States Cross Country at Limestone Park, all placing in the mid-20 pack out of 50 girls racing.  Well done, girls.

We also managed to fit into the last few days of term mini-athletics, which fell over three days and consisted of three fun athletic-inspired events (Faster than Freeman, Throw like Thor, and Fly).   It was so much fun being amongst all the students giving it a go and going in the draw to win bags, water bottles, and gift cards.  We also were able to pick up some hidden talent and are so excited to see these students in our CaSSSA 2021 Athletics team.

Two of our Year 7 girls also were selected into the BWHA girls' Hockey team and will be competing in the State Championships this month.  Well done, Jamee Draper and Mackenzie Boal.

Now that Cross Country is officially over for the year, we have full focus on Athletics.  With CaSSSA in Week 6, our training lives consist of Monday morning, Wednesday morning, Thursday afternoon training, block starts on Friday Break 1, and lead-up meets on Friday nights.  Fingers crossed that CaSSSA will be able to go ahead this year.  We were also lucky enough to be able to host our annual inter-house Athletics carnival this year in the last week of Term 2.  Once again, a huge congratulations to Villa Spada for taking home both the overall and percentage cup.  All your hard work is really paying off.

As of Tuesday, we have started a two-week inter-house Touch of Origin competition where houses will compete against each other for victory, and they will have the privilege to play a game against the teachers.  Best of luck to all the students playing; we look forward to seeing the students all showing spirit and cheering for their house.
