Tessellation

The Year Three and Four students have been looking at the art work of MC Escher, whose tessellation work was exhibited at NGV earlier this year. Hopefully you went along to see this display as it was well worth it.

The students have looked carefully at the techniques employed in his tessellations and used and extended these ideas in their own work. Eschers' work has assisted in developing the students understanding of line, texture and contrast. The students have spent approximately 400 minutes developing their work and have created excellent results.

Tessellation is found in many places in our everyday life without us even realising it, such as brickwork, tiling, soccer balls, piano keys, beehives honeycomb etc. Can you think of other places you may have seen tessellation?
