Around The Primary

Dear Parents
The Primary Music Ensemble Concert on Wednesday evening was a special event for those students who have participated in various ensembles and choirs throughout the year. It was the last performance for our Year 6 students and we especially thank them for their contribution to Music in the Primary school over many years. Thank you to our Music staff who work very hard behind the scenes, rehearsing and assisting students with their practice and repertoire to make this event happen.
To top the week off, Ms O’Connor and Year 5G planned and produced a fantastic Christmas item for today’s Assembly.
It is that exciting time of the year when we welcome our 2019 Pre-Kindy and Kindy students for their Orientation session. Our Pre-Primary to Year 6 2019 students will have their Transition session next Friday with their 2019 teacher and also meet new classmates for next year.
It is important that we encourage the students to meet this change with a sense of positivity and hope. The students will meet new friends and begin to make new connections with others that will continue into next year. At the end of the year, our staff conduct what we call handover sessions where they share pertinent information with the 2019 teacher to ensure that each child’s academic, social and wellbeing needs are shared with relevant staff.
As the school year draws to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our 2018 PALs for their fantastic contribution in coordinating volunteering requirements throughout the Primary School, as well as, organising family and parent events throughout the year. It is a wonderful example of the depth and breadth of our College community. Special thanks to Liz Blaxell for her year as Vice President of the Parents’ Association Committee and also for co-ordinating the Parents’ Association Liaison (PALS).

Next Wednesday we are having a Nude Food lunchbox day in the Primary school. We are encouraging all families to pack a lunchbox that is free of any wrapping or packaging. Each class will be taking a tally of the plastic wrapping, juice boxes and packets to see which class has the least. Lunch orders from the canteen will still be available but the packaging will be counted.
Kind regards

Semester 2 Reports
As you are aware the College is now using ‘SEQTA’ as a learning platform and parents can interact with this product via a website known as ‘SEQTA Engage’. When parents log in to this website you are able view your children’s academic reports which are generated as PDF files.
To access SEQTA Engage please use the following link as the URL in your internet browser.
https://parent.johnxxiii.edu.au
Once you have logged in, the reports can be accessed under the ‘Assessment’ tab.
If you have any difficulties accessing your child’s report at the end of the term, please send any enquiries to ithelpdesk@johnxxiii.edu.au
Reports will be ready from 3.00pm on Friday 7 December.
Well done to all the students who received a certificate for their fantastic achievements.

Youth Summit
I would first like to state how amazing it was at the Youth Summit that we attended last Friday. It not only allowed Year Fives from different Catholic schools to gather and listen to keynote speakers and each other about leadership and ”Being The One”. It was great experience for me. I took in all the wisdom that I received from all the role models on that day and will try to use it in my life. I found everything we did was so interactive and it made us all feel a part of something big. It was a wonderful day.
Liam Pietrzak (5B)
The Youth Summit day was spectacular, my peers and I got to experience a fun and educational day at Chisholm College. The day was full of really fun activities, such as, exercise and listening to great keynote speakers, all relating to the overall theme of “Being The One.” This means that we all could be leaders in our schools and in our own lives. All of the speakers had interesting things to say that were easy to understand and fun to listen to. As we left school we were all excited to be going to this special event. I was so grateful that I had the opportunity to go.
Amelia Hennessy (5B)
On Friday 16 November four Year Fives including me attended the Youth Summit at Chisholm College. The theme was “Being The One”. The keynote speakers spoke about the responsibilities involved in being a good leader. I found it very interesting when one of the keynote speakers a television journalist spoke about his experience with bullying at school and how it affected him. When I left the Youth Summit, I felt I was a leader and felt more confident in myself.
Mahalia Upton (5G)
I thought the Youth Summit we attended last Friday was amazing! All the guest speakers really inspired me. I think they did a fantastic job inspiring all the students that attended about what it means to be a leader. It was a very interactive experience, with all of us feeling that we could speak and be listened to. I feel I will now strive to carry out the lessons I learned on the day in my everyday life.

Solar Ovens
The Year 5 students have been busy designing, building and using solar ovens. The temperature in the ovens reached over 200 degrees celsius. After modifying our designs we will test cooking some savoury treats. Yum!
