Around The School

Open Mic Performances.

In 1982, Jack Lang and his staff at the Ministry of Culture (France), imagined a day where free music would be everywhere and would take place on June 21. This event would be called “Fete De La Musique” or “Make Music Day”. It is now celebrated in more than 800 cities in 120 different countries.

As part of the Make Music Day Uralla hosted an Open Mic session where students from all years were invited to take part and give performances to those students who wished to come along and listen. During lunch we had over 24 students perform using voice, ukulele, piano or guitar and they were well supported and encouraged by the audience. It was impressive to watch and listen to each of the students’ performance acts.

The teachers’ band “Paper Jam” made its first appearance performing two great hits “Summer of 69” and “Livin’ on a Prayer”. They enjoyed it as much as the students did!

Stayed tuned for the next Open Mic which will be held in Term 3.
