PREMIERS READING CHALLENGE

The Victorian Premiers Reading Challenge for 2019 will begin in the next two weeks.  We are currently in the process of re-assigning students to their new classes.  The Premiers Reading Challenge is a wonderful opportunity for students to keep record of and celebrate their reading.

Prep -2 students must read at least 30 books (These can be books that are read to them)

Year 3-6 students must read at least 15 books.

Last year 82% of our students completed the Challenge. This year we would love to see all of our students complete the Challenge.

Further information regarding the Premiers Reading Challenge and consent will be issued via Compass.

LIBRARY NEWS

Lamia (one of our wonderful Education Support staff members) is supervising our before school reading time in the Library. This is a relaxing and quiet way to start your day.

The Library is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8.30am.

We welcome any students (and parents) to spend time in the Library reading together in the mornings before school.

COMMUNITY BINS

This week I organised for our bin of empty Printer Ink Cartridges to be collected by an organisation called Close the Loop. Close the Loop is an international organisation based in Australia that leads the world in consumable takeback programs.  Close the Loop aims to use a circular economy model – that is they aim to reuse the ink cartridges by returning them back to the manufacturers.

As part of our mission to become a more sustainable school we place all of the ink cartridges we use at school in the bins. We also encourage all members of our community to place any empty ink cartridges from home into the community bins located just outside the office.
