8th March

CHINESE SISTER SCHOOL VISIT

Next week from Wednesday we are looking forward to hosting 24 students from our Chinese sister school, Weijiang Experimental Primary School in Chendgu. Students will be allocated to classes from Year 3 to 6 and will participate in all the learning, activities and events that occur over a week at our school. Many kind families have also offered to host these students and we greatly appreciate your support. An assembly to farewell these students will be held on Tuesday 19th March at 3pm in the gym. Parents are welcome to attend.

UPCOMING CURRICULUM and LABOUR DAY

Please be reminded that students are not required at school on the Labour Day holiday on Monday 11th March and also on the following day, Tuesday 12th March when there is a curriculum day.

SCHOOL COUNCIL

Congratulations to the following parents who have been elected to school council for 2019 and 2020. As we had as many nominations as positions vacant, these parents were automatically elected to school council.

  • Marianne Ng
  • Shamus Dougan
  • Kristine Klados
  • Shikha Gupta

In the Department of Education category for school council there was one vacant position and one staff member nominated. As above there is no need for a ballot and Leasyl Richards has been elected to school council. The next school council meeting and AGM will be held on Monday 25th March at which office bearers and roles for 2019 will be determined.

SWIMMING SPORTS

Congratulations to the Wheelers Hill Primary School swimming team who WON the WESA swimming sports the other week. Well done to you all. Thanks to Ms Purcell for her organisation and effort in running the swimming trials and sports as well.

PORTABLE UPDATE

The temporary fence has been placed around the new portable site over the last week and relocation and removal of some of the existing equipment has begun. We expect to see delivery of the new portable sometime next week, possibly even on Tuesday 12 March, the curriculum day when students will not be at school. A new site to relocate the sandpit and gaga pit has been selected towards the back of the oval by Threadbow Drive. They should be reinstated in the next few weeks. We have had a couple of proposals for new playground and equipment submitted so far for review and will make a decision shortly on which proposal. This is a great opportunity to renew and refresh the playgrounds and play spaces around the school.

HARMONY DAY

Just a reminder our annual Harmony Day will be on Friday 5th April, the last day of term. More details will be available closer to the date but please remember students can wear their traditional or cultural dress or clothing on this day. It is a wonderful day to celebrate the cultural diversity we have here at WHPS.

Enjoy your extra long weekend everyone!
