Student Services

A big lockdown hello from all the staff in Student Services. We hope all our wonderful students and families are staying safe and getting through this tricky time as best as they can.

Student Services would like to congratulate all our students who have engaged with the Learning Support Team over the past weeks. We recognise that it isn’t easy to engage in your learning without classroom support sometimes.  Under the circumstances we think you are all doing an amazing job.

We understand that for some of our families, this is a very challenging time to maintain positive mental health. To help alleviate some of the stress, Take It Easy Tuesday is now a whole school weekly event while we continue with remote learning.

We hope this gives all our families an opportunity to catch their breath. It provides a space in the week for students to catch up on their schoolwork but also take time for self-care and time away from screens. I would like to give a big shout out to Miss Perkins who has worked tirelessly to develop and create our very own wellbeing website for our school community to compliment this day. Each faculty is posting fun activities each week on the website and it is looking awesome. If you are yet to engage with the platform, it is well worth a look. Students can share how they engage in the Take It Easy Tuesday weekly challenges by posting a photo on the HKHS MS Teams site. Thanks also to Mr Mellish, for organising this virtual platform. It is a wonderful way for us to stay connected. Here are some fun entries from our weekly pet challenge.

We have also had a challenge to dress as your favourite book character. Again, some fantastic photos!!

Other examples of some of the activities found on the website are mini crosswords, virtual tours of museums and the Great Barrier Reef, riddles, games, hip hop dance class, meditation sessions to name a few.

The website will continue to grow when we return to face to face teaching. It is a great addition to the extensive wellbeing practices we have in place at HKHS.

This week we celebrated Wear It Purple Day. Students were encouraged to get involved by taking a selfie in their best purple outfit and have a go at baking a purple creation. Here are some of the wonderful entries. There are lots of resources available on the website focussing on this year’s theme ‘Start the Conversation and Keep it Going’

RUOK Day is coming!

HKHS will celebrate RUOK Day next week. Our wonderful SRC will create a video, encourage our students to reach out to their friends and have the traditional HKHS RUOK Day hot chocolate. We are going to miss our yummy RUOK Day canteen cupcakes this year but have a go at making some at home and sending in a photo. We would love to see them.

As we continue with online learning, I would encourage families to reach out to the school if you have any concerns about your child’s mental health or learning engagement. We are here to help. Please see the following community support agencies and contact details. These contacts are also on the Take it Easy Tuesday website available to every student.
