This can be accessed via the internet at https://henrykendah.eplatform.co/ and through the Wheelers app. There are numerous titles available on the platform. The top four most borrowed series by students are The Hunger Games, The Warriors, Maze Runner and Harry Potter. Some of the latest young adult additions include The Island by C. L. Taylor: this thriller  has been described as Hunger Games meets Lost, This is not a Ghost Story by Andrea Portes: a chilling tale described as American Horror Story meets There’s Someone Inside Your House, and Tiny Pretty Things by Sona Charaipotra: a drama described as Black Swan meets Pretty Little Liars.

The Premiers Reading Challenge ended Friday September 3rd.  Congratulations to all the students who participated, and to Pia McLean-Barth and Dolma Tentso who completed the challenge this year.  From the time the challenge closes any books students read can be included on their reading log for next year’s Premier’s Reading Challenge.

Book Week this term was a virtual celebration. Miss Klein curated a choice board of information and activities for students. Students were challenged to take photos of themselves in book character costumes and Tamika Williams was the winner with her Harry Potter costume. Other activities included making cookies based on Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series, matching teachers to their favourite books and listening to the wonderful Neil Gaiman read one of his short stories.

Wednesday September 2nd was Indigenous Literacy Day. Students were able to access a range of texts in written, visual, and audio form that celebrate First Nation stories and languages on a curated choice board. Music from Barkaa, a story from Growing up Aboriginal and a link to the meaning behind Central Coast suburb names are part of what can be accessed. The choice board is linked on the student wellbeing website for students to access at any time.

The Creative Writing Club has continued online this term. Any students who would like to be involved or to know about upcoming writing contests can contact Miss Klein via email to get the Google Classroom code for the club. Coming up in November is the Nano Wrimo Challenge. Students are able to select a word count challenge for the month and see if they can meet or exceed it. The focus of the challenge is to write and not let editor mode get in the way. More information will be available in Term 4.
