Boarding

Anthony Begg, Head of Boys Boarding

It is certainly an incredible time in which we are living, I’m not sure any of us could have envisaged a time in our lives in which any of the realities of living with COVID would be considered acceptable or even normal. Boarding certainly looks different today then last week. 320 students reduced to 21 in one day, two sites combined to one, with girls and boys boarding on the Wolaroi Campus for the first time in over 130 years. Through this change, the encouragement, understanding and support shown by families, students and staff has been remarkable. The Kinross Wolaroi boarding community spirit has shone bright during this uncertain time and for that, the school is truly grateful. We hope that remote learning has started well for you all and if issues occur with connectivity or other, please continue to reach out so that we can provide alternatives to ensure continuity of learning.

Currently we have nine boys located in Tower House and fourteen girls in Wolaroi House living under Level 4 guidelines. Whilst the guidelines do limit activities and interactions, there is a lovely sense of community. Students have continued with their regular routines of remote learning (in the Library), meals and prep, they have also participated in outdoor fitness sessions and other recreational activities through accessing the pool and Recreation Centre.

With COVID-19 certainly out in regional areas, we have everyone in our thoughts during this difficult time. Boarding houses are aiming to remain connected via MS Teams, offering house meeting, activities and prep support. In these uncertain times, it is important to look and find things to celebrate and cherish. We are so grateful to all our boarders for the flexibility and resilience they have shown in their willingness to embrace, accept and thrive in change that was thrust upon them. We encourage everyone to seek support whether it be for academic reasons or pastoral support, we are here for you.
