Join the KWS Cattle Team

This is an open invitation to all students at KWS to consider joining our Cattle Team. It’s hands on and we meet twice weekly to enjoy working with cattle in the yards. KWS uses a mixture of school steers and steers that come from partnerships in our community. We enter regional shows and our two main feature shows are the Hunter Beef Bonanza at Scone and Sydney Royal Easter Show.

This means alongside the day-to-day animal husbandry, we also break in the cattle, teach them to lead, understand the importance of feed to weight ratio in preparation for steer showing. Competitions involve parading the cattle, junior judging and for our two main shows a hoof and hook competition where the steers are judged both on their liveweight and conformation as well as a carcase competition. We continue to be very competitive and have managed to consistently win ribbons and other prizes for our efforts.

No previous experience is needed.  Requirements are enthusiasm and an eagerness to be with cattle, to learn or to have an opportunity to engage in what you already do on your properties plus the chance to be part of a team.
