Emmanuel College News

Social issues and community outreach are important concepts what we are constantly working to inform our students about at the College. This year NAIDOC Week fell during the school holidays, so we had a belated celebration all week last week. Students participated in activities around Aboriginal Culture, learning about population statistics of indigenous Australians and famous Aboriginal People, such as Albert Namatjira & Neville Bonner. This work provided a continued growing insight into the cultures and lives of Australia’s First Nation’s People.

There are also many opportunities for students to participate in community support of outreach programs at the College. This term we have already raised much needed funds for Joseph’s Corner, as well as having three coming events for the term – COVID restrictions permitting – for different charitable causes or awareness events.

As we again find ourselves in the midst of strict lockdown restrictions, each of us finds the challenge of maintaining positivity different. Many of us may feel a bit beaten by the latest lockdown, but, we actually get better at it each time and we become more resilient. Great entrepreneur Wally Amos famously said, ‘You may not be responsible for being knocked down, but, you are certainly responsible for getting back up.’ At Emmanuel we are surrounding the students with extensive support networks, counseling services and general encouragement to give them the strength to continue to ‘get back up’ and as they do, they continue to inspire the adults in their lives to also build resilience and feel that it is ok to ask for and receive help.

Recently we conducted our Annual Information Morning virtually, where students and parents logged in and heard from the College Principal, student leaders and parents. Families also had the opportunity to participate in a Q & A Forum and ask questions about College life. Many parents have reported that it was a wonderful experience and gave them a great insight into College life.
