The Impressionists - Innovating on texts in the Year 5 and 6 Community
Last week, the Year 5 and 6 Community read Katie and the Impressionists by James Mayhew. This was originally planned as an inspiration text for the students before we visited the NGV exhibition.
The task for the students was to innovate on a text. This involves taking the original story and changing it in some way. The English Curriculum for Years 5 and 6 states for students to create literary texts using realistic and fantasy settings and characters that draw on the worlds represented in texts students have experienced and create literary texts that adapt or combine aspects of texts students have experienced in innovative ways. In this case, the students in the Year 5 and 6 community needed to create a narrative that incorporated the paintings as key elements. The question they needed to think about was: What would be the causes and the effects of these artworks being disturbed?

Cricket Australia - The Mascot Challenge
The Mascot Challenge is a free 4-week program that can be completed at home or in the classroom. Students spend 10 minutes a day developing fundamental motor skills, which help lay the foundation for them to lead a healthy and active life. Our Corpus Christi School Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 children will be taking part in this challenge. They will all receive a soft cricket stress ball to practice their skills with. The four aspects of the challenge are:
Week 1 - Catching
Week 2 - Throwing
Week 3 - Bouncing
Week 4 - Games
Every week the students will be given a target for four activities progressing in difficulty allowing students to develop at their own pace in a fun, supportive environment.
