YEAR 11 PE SKI TRIP

MR CHRIS JOYCE

An early morning 4.00am start greeted the Year 11 PE students on Wednesday 18th August as they boarded the bus and headed off for Mt Buller for three days of skiing.

Students were welcomed to the mountain by 9.30am to glorious conditions, both snow and weather. Crowds on the mountain were non-existent and it almost felt like we had the mountain to ourselves. It’s rare when you can ski straight onto a lift, but this was a luxury enjoyed for all three days.

Following the collection of ski equipment, it was time to begin lessons. Skills began slowly with the basics being taught, but everyone quickly improved and it wasn’t long before slow plough stops and turns were evident and being put into practice.

By Day Three, intermediate runs were beginning to be mastered and students were becoming quite competent in their level of skill and obviously growing with confidence.

Both evenings in the lodge involved cooking and cleaning duties, ample games of pool and plenty of recovery from fatigued legs, and bumps and bruises.

A massive congratulations go to all students for the manner in which they treated each other, the lodge, the instructors and the mountain rules with respect and care. We received excellent feedback from the lodge manager on our students, for which we are grateful.

All students appeared to have a fantastic time on the mountain and combined with significant skill development, I think there will be many looking for opportunities to return to the snow in the future for another great skiing experience.
