LOCKDOWN HOBBIES

EAT. MOVE. SMILE.

We are all now very experienced in the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions and the need to stay at home, however as time goes on it becomes more challenging to stay optimistic and also entertained. Many of us are tired of screen time and zoom calls. I thought a list of some of my options and a few I am yet to try might help others with some inspiration. Please let us know what works for you and we would be happy to share those too!

Try a craft - I love knitting and crochet, but also sewing. Some of my family have had a go at learning to knit using online video clips…there is also patchwork, needlecraft, macramé, even tatting (a skill my grandmother was exceptional at) see what you can create.

Gardening - either growing herbs, vegetables, flowers or shrubs are all very rewarding pastimes, edible gardens have the advantage of providing food (saving the need to go the shop) and home grown tastes delicious. Try a pot of herbs to get you started…. check out our gardening tips on https://www.foodforall.community/

Music heals the soul - just listening is great but have you considered learning to play a musical instrument? It is certainly challenging but also very rewarding, maybe try listening to some new or different musical styles.

Exercise - walking, jogging, cycling, scooting are all fine to do during lockdown, even with another person. Check out some new places to explore in your 5km radius. We are so lucky to have the beautiful Murray River close by which always is enjoyable. Check out the birdlife, but be careful not to get swooped.

Try a puzzle, game or quiz. Our family are a little obsessed with jigsaw puzzles so there are many to share around. Games with the family are fun and create opportunities to have some good conversation and a few laughs. A family or friends quiz night (via Zoom or similar) were popular last year and continue in 2021. These are also enjoyed by workmates, an opportunity to connect while working from home.

Read - whatever takes your interest, fiction, non fiction, hard copy, or on a tablet. I absolutely love to listen to audio books while I walk.  Join your local library to access audio and e-books for free.

I am sure there are many more options but this is a start.
