PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

MS MICHELLE HAEUSLER - PRINCIPAL

Recently I read a post on social media that challenged people to go one day without talking about COVID or the pandemic.  I find this very hard, as it is what is connecting us at the moment.  What I have tried to do though, is remain positive and look forward to the future with hope and comfort that things will be better.

As a school we have prayed for the Afghan families in our local community as well as all Afghan people affected by the events unfolding in Afghanistan.  A wonderful initiative was enacted by our EALD Coordinator, Ms Leary, in making kites to support Afghan families.  Homerooms nominated someone to make a kite, and we had many other students and staff choose to be involved.  A number of Kite Kits are still available in the Front Office.  If you would like to collect one, please call Reception before coming into the school.

Everyone in our community has once again committed to online learning and making the best out of the situation.  We have some students who are not engaging well in their classes.  Whilst I understand that we need to be mindful of our wellbeing, I ask parents to ensure students are joining Google Classroom Meets or call the school and let us know that your child is not coping.  Our Wellbeing staff are working really hard during this time and will support any student or parent who needs assistance.

A number of staff delivered Kindness Bags to our Year 12 students last week.  Reports from the staff were that the students appreciated, not only the gift, but the visit from the staff.  We were unable to visit students in NSW or Kerang and Cohuna.  Hopefully all of these students received their gift in the mail.

A number of events have been postponed or rescheduled on our calendar.  More information will be provided to families as we receive more news in the coming days and weeks.  Our thoughts are with the Year 11 and 12 students studying Unit 4 subjects as they move towards the end of their formal classes and into study for the upcoming exams.  Again, we will provide information to families as soon as we are able with regard to Practice Exams and options for completion of assessments onsite.

As always, stay safe, remain ‘calm and full of hope’ and reach out if you require support.
