Christmas in July

Food Drive

A big thank you to our most generous Oxley community for your contributions towards our Christmas in July Food Drive for CIRE Chirnside Park and Yarra Junction. Year 9 Middle Years Leaders, led by Mr Fox, have done a wonderful job in leading and promoting this initiative, and helping to pack and load the van this week with more than 1,000 food items. We also had the opportunity to pray together over the items before delivery. We prayed that God would see them into the right hands and those receiving them would experience and know the love, care, and concern of Christ.

Jenelle Strachan, the Community Hubs Manager for CIRE was once again blown away by the number of items donated, saying, “This will be such a help to so many”, “These items will probably last us right through to the end of the year!” Jenelle, a former Oxley student, told us of how the need for support by families in our region, is only increasing, “most of those who make use of our community pantry are families and the elderly, who with the cost of living today, are struggling to put food on the table sometimes.” The pantry is open, no questions asked, between 9.00am and 5.00pm daily by the front door of the community hub facility.

While it might seem reasonably easy and perhaps not much, to donate a single food item, when it is combined and multiplied by 1,000, it really does go a long way!

So thank you Oxley! We are blessed to be a blessing and what a blessing you have been!

Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbour, ‘Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you’— when you already have it with you. Proverbs 3:27-28

God bless,
