Year 5/6 Report
Wow, we have already reached the halfway point of Term 3!
On Monday 31st July, Will Setterfield and Sam Durham from the Essendon Football Club visited our school for a Q and A session with the Year 5 and 6 students. Lots of questions were asked with many interesting and insightful answers about the AFL from each player. The students thoroughly enjoyed listening to their experiences! At the end of the session, students had the opportunity to take lots of photos and get the players' signatures.
Embedded into both literacy and inquiry lessons, students are continuing to further their knowledge of food waste in Australia and develop a better understanding of healthy eating for children. Our previous cooking lessons have involved making a crunchy noodle salad and fast fritters. Later in the term, students will begin designing their own healthy recipes for the APS Feast Cookbook. Their recipes will aim to promote healthy eating and limit food waste.
In writing, students have been planning their narrative pieces. They have been learning about the different components and features of a narrative story and creating their own seed pages to develop their thoughts into bigger ideas. Students are now at the stage of beginning to draft their stories.
Last Friday, selected grade 5/6 students participated in Basketball Victoria’s Hoop Time program. Hoop Time brings together students from across multiple Victorian schools for a single-day round robin tournament held at Keilor Basketball Stadium. There were 4 APS teams that had the opportunity to play in the fun competition with qualified referees. Well done to all the teams who were very successful.
