School Council Update
Dear Aberfeldie Primary School community,
I hope this post finds you all well. The chilly winter mornings have well and truly hit!
The School Council held their latest meeting on Monday 14th August. This is the only meeting that will be held this term (our previous meeting was in June), with the next meeting in October.
There were a number of notable items presented and discussed at School Council which I would like to share below:
- Principal’s Report – the key item Nathan shared and which should be celebrated by our community were the school-wide NAPLAN results. Our main takeaways were that in most areas, our students demonstrated skills across literacy and numeracy that were generally in line with similar schools in our area (at times above) and generally higher that the average across the network. We also had a very high percentage of students who fell within the ‘exceeding’ range, and a very low percentage in the range indicating the need for additional support. Overall, these results are a testament to our Grade 3 and 5 students, and the school, for all of their continuing persistence and hard work.
- Fundraising – the Bingo fundraiser (2nd September)is coming up quickly and the fundraising committee, especially Olivia Mouat, have been putting in a lot of effort to get this event planned. Tickets are now available, so I hope to see you there. There will also be communications shortly regarding some activities and events that are in the planning stages for Father’s Day, and then we can all look forward to our end of year celebrations (think last year but even better!).
- Finance – reviewed the school’s finances for the past two months, with no concerns being raised.
- Policy, Planning, & Review – highlighted the policies they will be focusing on reviewing and updating for the remainder of the years.
- Buildings & Grounds – the working bee is in its final stages of preparation and a Compass post has gone out asking families to donate some time on Sunday 27th August. If you are free at all, please respond to the link and nominate some times you are able to help. There will be a BBQ for sustenance, and there are some big plans for tidying and improving the grounds that will start on this working bee day. A big thanks to Ben Coss’ (convenor) and his father, Peter, who are making a lot of this happen!
Our next meeting will be help on the 16th October and I will send out a report of the meeting afterwards. In the meantime, there are a few exciting events happening for the school, and the Term 3 holidays are on the horizon.
Until next time,
Bec Sobell APS School Council President
Fathers Day Stall
Thursday August 31 sees APS celebrate the dad’s with the ever popular Father’s Day stall. Please ensure children bring no more than $20 each and a carry bag to bring home their thoughtfully curated gifts. If any adults are able to assist on the morning, please contact Louisa on 0418167934. You will require a Working With Children’s Check and complete the Childsafe Code of Conduct.
The APS fundraising committee would like to thank Louisa Howe in coordinating her final event for her family’s time here at APS. Her patience, grace and expert coordination skills are going to be greatly missed.
