Grade 3 - 4
Reading
This week students have been working on gathering the important information from an explanation text. They have been reading with partners and explaining to each other the information they feel is important. They have been doing this with whole texts and paragraphs from a non fiction text. They have also started to learn how to summarise a non fiction text.
Writing
This week students have been demonstrating the structure of an explanation text on a topic of their choosing. We have seen many explanation texts about life cycles of many different animals and quite a few on how to play soccer. The students have loved writing about a topic that interests them and have really shown their understanding of the structure and use of technical language in an explanation text!
Maths
This week in maths the 3/4 students have been looking at the relationship between division and multiplication and fact families. They have learnt the different terms used in division vocabulary, and used this knowledge to help them solve worded problems.
Humanities
In Humanities the grade 3/4s have been looking at famous explorers such as Christopher Columbus, Vasco da Gama and Ferdinand Magellan. We have also been investigating the
first fleet of ships as well as some of the convicts that may have been aboard those ships.
Language Conventions
In Language Conventions the grade 3/4s have been focusing on their editing skills. They have looked at plurals, possessive apostrophes, capital letters and boundary punctuation. They have been using these editing skills to fix the grammar and punctuation errors in various passages of text, as well as when writing and editing their own sentences.
Respectful Relationships
In respectful Relationships, students have been focusing on what may stress them at school or home. They have been learning strategies to help them calm down when they are feeling stressed. Students have been in several discussions with their peers to encourage each other when they feel stressed.
