Some events to look forward to this term:
We can't wait to share our learning with you this term!
Our Parent Portal for reports is available for access once again. We appreciate your patience as we updated our reports to include our S.T.E.M. grades for Semester One.
If you have any questions about your child's/children's S.T.E.M. reports, please contact Danielle James.
Our Semester Two Reports will be due to be sent home in December.
A big congratulations to the students in Years 3-6 who sat and completed the ICAS English assessment this week. All of our students did an amazing job and should be proud of their efforts! We look forward to sharing their results with you later in the year.
ICAS Maths for 3-6 will be held in week 8.
Book Week is next week - Monday 21st - Friday 25th August. The theme for this year's Book Week is 'Read, Grow, Inspire!'
We are inviting all of our students to dress up on Friday 25th August as their favourite book character or something that ties into the theme of 'Read, Grow, Inspire!' (the date is on the school calendar for you).
We will be showcasing our costumes and Book Week learning during our whole school assembly on Friday 25th August.
The books of the year can be found: https://cbca.org.au/
For this year's Book Week learning and celebrations, we have invited three authors to Holy Spirit to speak to our students.
Our first author visit was held on Friday 4th August. Morris Gleitzman visited our 5/6 students and spoke to them about writing craft, forming sizzling starts and engaging beginnings for their writing and what life is like being an author. We were also lucky enough to ask Morris to sign some of our books.
On Wednesday 23rd August Amy Adeney will be visiting our Prep - Year 2 students. Amy will be showing our students the books she has written and speaking about her writing journey.
On Wednesday 23rd August Crystal Corocher will be visiting our 3/4 students and speaking to them about writing and coming up with ideas.
We can't wait to share our learning with you all!
On Thursday 10th August the Learning and Teaching leaders and MACS (Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools) staff attended a network meeting (professional development course) at Holy Spirit. We had approximately 100 teachers and leaders from the Eastern Region come and hear about our school's learning journey and also complete a 'Learning Walk' through many of our classrooms.
These learning walks are walks inside the classroom where leaders ask the following 5 questions:
These questions are based on the work of Lyn Sharratt (an educational consultant and expert) and allow leaders to see what is happening in the classroom and what improvements/advancements should occur next.
I was blown away by our staff and students and their willingness to chat to teachers from the region and invite them into their classroom space. A huge thank you to our amazing staff and students for your support last week, I could definitely not have done it without you all!
This year’s Science Week theme is Innovations: Powering Future Industries.Innovation is about applying ideas to improve a product or service to create more value. People in all organisations innovate when they find better ways of doing things. Innovation can also mean creatively solving a complex problem.
Amazing effort by Holy Spirit! Our reading tally is up to a whopping 1560 books. 20 of our students have completed the challenge - amazing job!!
Our most read books:
23 days left of the challenge. It's not too late to join if you would like to. Information and logins are available via your class announcement section on your child's/children's classroom Dojo.
We can't wait to keep sharing our reading progress with you.
Holy Spirit have a subscription to an online resource called Storybox Library. This platform provides access to an incredible amount of storybooks read by actors, politicians, authors, to name a few.
