Education in Faith

Faith, Family, Friendship

At Holy Spirit, we respectfully acknowledge the Wurundjeri people and their Elders past and present, who are the Traditional Custodians of the land on which Holy Spirit Community School is located.

This week we celebrated the Feast of The Assumption of Mary, this is when Mary , the mother of Jesus was taken up into the glory of heaven. Mary was an extraordinary person who lived an ordinary life. Mary is a light for our world, a light of love. She shows us how to be compassionate, loyal and just.

A Prayer for Mary

Dear God,

On this special feast of Mary, let us pray to our God with the same faith and trust that Mary held in her heart.

For our Church and all God’s people: that we may be faithful to God’s way and like Mary be a sign of God’s grace and love in our world.

Amen.

School Closure Day

On Wednesday 9th August we had our School Closure Day. The focus of this day was on Scripture and faith formation.

We invited a guest speaker Rose Marie Prosser to upskill us in the Old and New Testaments, people of the bible and provide us a history (timeline) on biblical events. The day provoked lots of discussions and definitely had the staff thinking and wondering about Religious Education.

We completed the day with a guided tour of St Patrick's Cathedral. The historian of the cathedral, David, immersed us in the history, showed us artefacts and pointed out many symbols of the cathedral that we had not noticed befo

We enjoyed our time together, thinking and learning more about each other and our Catholic Faith.

Upcoming Dates:

  • 11th October: Prep Level Mass (11:40am)
  • 1st November: All Saints Day Mass (9:15am)

See you in a fortnight,

Kayla Flindt-Petersen

PARISH NEWS

The Parish has resumed communion under both kinds – the host and wine.  We have 2 special ministers with the wine chalice standing either side of Father.  It is not permitted to dip the host in the chalice.  It is only permitted to receive the chalice, drink a little from it and then return the chalice to the minister who will wipe the chalice with a purifier.  You will then return reverently to your seat.  You do not have to take the wine.  Only if so desired.

Communion at Home for those unable to attend mass due to illness or other reason, has also recommenced.  If you know someone who would like to receive communion at home, contact the Parish Office on 7036 9395 and we can arrange for someone to visit them.

The fete are looking for people able to make jam, marmalade, chutney or relish.  If you are able to help, please take a box of jars from the church kitchen.  For any further enquiries, please contact Yvette on 0407 873 432.

Holy Spirit is a child safe Parish.  We hold the care, safety and well being of children and young people as a central and fundamental responsibility of our Parish.
