Year Eight

Spanish

In Spanish classes, Year Eight students have been learning the names of places in town such as library, restaurant, bank, etc. This week students are learning how to describe the location of some of these facilities in their town, and next we will learn how to give and follow directions to these places.

Last week we had a super fun lesson using different games to consolidate our learning of new vocabulary. We played Kaboom, Clear-the-Board, and Quiz-Quiz-Trade. Students were developing their Spanish speaking skills and practising their newly acquired vocabulary as well as having fun and engaging in some healthy competition!

Mathematics

In Year Eight Mathematics, students have put their minds to the test by exploring concepts around Algebra.

They have implemented their prior knowledge by tapping into their understanding of the four operations, order of operations, and positive and negative integers during this topic. Students began by exploring real world examples of algebraic expressions, recording their own expressions using pronumerals, coefficients, and constants. We have explored many skills including substitution, as well as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing terms.

During Math sessions, we have implemented   open-ended lessons that require students to think critically and use their problem solving skills to find multiple solutions to the problem.

In the coming weeks, students will be expanding, simplifying, and factorising algebraic expressions as well as exploring other areas specific to their learning needs.

Wood Technology

This Term, Year Eight Wood Technology students have been exploring health and safety in the Wood Technology room. Year Eight students have been learning to identify hazards and their potential risks and how to prevent injury to ourselves and others. Year Eight students have also explored the purpose and importance of safety signs in a work environment while also creating their own designs to display in the Wood Technology room.

In the coming weeks, students are beginning the process of constructing their products for the Term, a Resin Art Serving Board. Students will use the Design Process to plan, produce and evaluate their products and practice the skills of laminating timber together without the use of hardware.
