Ciao a tutti!

Ciao a tutti (hello to everyone), my name is Signora Talarico. I'm the new Italian teacher at St. Brigid.  I am very grateful to be teaching at St Brigids. I also teach italian at 2 other primary school close by.

The St Brigid Community has been welcoming and friendly and all the children have big, smiley faces! Since joining St Brigid's I have been busy decorating the aula d'italiano (italian classroom) for students. All students in Foundation and Years 5/6 participate in a 40 minute lesson of Italian each week this semsester.

The emphasis of the program is on developing the child's ability to communicate in the Italian language (specifically, assisting them to learn the knowledge, skills and behaviours relevant to the italian language) as well as ensuring that the child develops intercultural knowledge (that is, that they develop knowledge of the connections between language and culture). This is achieved through games, songs, stories, film, choral repetition, role-play, reading and writing, centred around topics that are relevant to every child such as numbers, colours, family, food, animals, travel, sport and clothing.

DEALING WITH DISTURBING CONTENT

This may help if:

  • your child has heard  about a tv show or movie that makes you a bit uncomfortable
  • your child has watched something disturbing already

Disturbing or controversial content can be hard to keep away from older children – whether it’s filling up their inbox or the latest TV show everybody is talking about. This sort of media can be stressful and inappropriate, even if your child doesn’t necessarily  think so. Here are some tips for supporting your child through the minefield that is online content.
