Junior School Report

Junior School Report

As Semester 1 comes to an end, it is an important time to recognise the fantastic work of our junior school students and celebrate their achievements. This semester has seen our new Year 7 cohort adjust to life of high school, and begin their journey with Year 7 camp. This was such a memorable experience for all, and it was great to see so many students challenge themselves and gain new friendships. This term also involved a number of students participating in extra-curricular activities such as interschool sports. They all did such a wonderful job representing the College with pride, and it was even great to see our Year 8 Netball girls team make it to the semi-final.

Students were also lucky enough to gain valuable study and learning tips from the team at Elevate Education. In a targeted seminar for each year level, students gained the knowledge to help with their study habits and succeed with their learning. Of course, it must be noted that students experienced two separate lockdowns during Semester 1. Whilst this proved to be a difficult time for all, we must acknowledge the hard work, dedication and commitment of our students during remote learning.

It has been such a busy yet fruitful Semester 1, and we look forward to the many more learning opportunities that will take place at Scoresby in next semester.

Remote Learning Reflection:

Remote learning for me was a pretty good experience. After the last lockdown I realised that in order to get all your work done, you need to be pretty motivated and organised. As a result, I found that in order to be successful it was important to still get up early, get dressed and start the day as normal.

I enjoyed remote learning because I could work at my own pace, and get some daily exercise by walking by dog at lunch time. An obvious downside of remote learning is that fact that I missed seeing my friends, and therefore was very glad that it was only temporary. I found the work easy to access and the WebEx sessions were engaging and helpful. Initially, I found it difficult to submit work properly on Compass, and this was my biggest challenge. However, with the help of my friends and teachers, I eventually got the hang of emailing and all of the online platforms that were used throughout the remote learning period.

While I hope we don’t have any more lockdowns or periods of remote learning, I feel we are all very well practiced and prepared for one if it does happen again.

Return Date – Term 3

Monday 12 July will see students return for Term 3 schooling, and we are certainly hopeful that there are no further disruptions to on-site learning.

Students should ensure that they return in the correct winter uniform with black leather lace-up shoes, skirts at knee length, plain socks (with no logo), and the correct College bag.

Students are also encouraged to avoid getting any piercings or colouring their hair over the holidays to ensure that they meet the College uniform requirements on day one.

Upcoming Events:

Term 3 will definitely be a busy time of year with lots of chances for students to participate in learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. Some of the events to look forward to include:

  • Respectful Relationships / Challenge Program: Year 8 and 9 students
  • Brainstorm Production: Year 7- 10 students
  • Year 8 Symposium
  • Year 9 Night of the Notables
  • KIOSC excursions
  • Year 8 and 9 Information Night

We look forward to sharing with you the highlights for each of these events in the upcoming editions of the newsletter.

The Junior School team wish our students, parents and families all the very best for a safe and relaxing term break. We are looking forward to seeing you all return refreshed and ready for many learning opportunities in Term 3.
