Learning Area - Communications

English is one of the most important subjects that we can study, for it is only through learning to read and write, to talk and to discuss that we can truly communicate our own understanding and connect to others. It is also important because of the skills that it helps to give us:

  • Reading books is useful because it helps us to learn about different people and different places. Reading regularly helps us to build up connections, empathise more with others and to learn and use a larger vocabulary.
  • Writing essays is useful because it helps us to logically structure our ideas, argue points that we believe in and use evidence to support what we are saying.
  • Writing creative pieces is useful because it helps us to think about the world and our place in it, it helps us to consider what we value as important and how we want to construct our own world.
  • Performing oral presentations can help us build up our confidence speaking in public, develop our leadership skills and help us to identify ways to communicate our ideas and persuade those around us.
