Reflecting on Semester 1 Results prior to the Career’s Pathway Expo 2021 and Subject Selection

As we resume studies for Semester 2, students have the opportunity to reflect on the successes and challenges they have had across Semester 1, prior to entering the subject selection period.

The release of SEQTA Reports in Week 1 of the term break allows students to identify particular areas of strength which we will continue to build on, and also consider any areas where students may not have performed as well as they would have liked.

Now is a great time for students to develop a strategy to address these areas, to have open and honest discussions with teachers about challenges encountered in their learning, and to seek deeper feedback for how they might improve their academic results.

Through the review of Semester 1 successes, students can also identify subjects in which they are performing most strongly.

This overview of key areas of strength is critical when deciding on which subjects to study in 2022. As students move into higher year levels, and more study options become available, they can begin to design a more personalised learning program that complements their skill set.

When completing the subject selection it is important to focus on three questions:

  • What am I good at?
  • What do I enjoy?
  • What do I need to study to get me where I want to go in my career?

In an effort to assist students in planning their programs and pathways, and to provide important study information, St John’s hosts its annual Career Pathways Expo.

The Career Pathways Expo 2021 on Wednesday, July 21 marks the official launch of our subject selection period.

This event gives students a dedicated forum for discussing pathway and program options. Students have access to subject teachers, Learning Leaders, and a host of tertiary and trade providers.

This year, the Career’s Pathway Expo will be held in the Br Leo Scollen stadium and operate from 6pm-8pm.

As part of this evening, compulsory Year 10 VCE and VCAL Information sessions are scheduled to provide critical information to Year 10 students about the selection of their senior program, and the detail the VCE and VCAL program options.

I wish to thank Ms Leana Bailey our Career’s Pathway Coordinator and our Learning Leaders for all of the great work that has been done in preparing for this event.
