Deputy Principal - Teaching and Learning
Welcome to Term 3. We once again find ourselves undertaking some remote learning, but I do hope that it will be for a short period of time and that we will be welcoming our students back on campus very soon.
Term 3 is a very busy term. It is when we undertake subject selection with our students and beginning to make plans for the following year. It is slightly unnerving when paperwork comes out with 2022 written on it, but we are soon to be immersed in this process.
SUBJECT SELECTION AND STEP UP
The subject selection process has been altered this year because we are going to be having Step Up begin on 16 November this year. On this day, all students will transfer into their 2022 timetable and begin learning activities focusing on their programs for the following year. As a result, subject selection will have shorter submission times. This will enable the College to establish the 2002 timetable in a shorter timeframe.
The decision to introduce Step Up this year is solely based on maintaining momentum with student learning programs. We believe that it is to the advantage of students to begin their studies for the following year, and as much as is possible, for this learning to occur with the teacher they will have for given subjects. Step Up also eliminates teachers having to miss classes to do the transition with senior classes. Now all classes from years 7 to 11 will shift upwards at the same time, enabling the College to smoothly transition students for the following year.
YEAR 10 2022 DEVICES
Year 9 2021 families will soon receive correspondence that will explain the process for purchasing the senior device for students. All Year 10 students are required to have their own device, and families will have the option to select these from an online supplier portal, or to secure their own device from a different store. It is crucial that the minimum specifications of the device are met. These details will be outlined clearly in the correspondence.
STUDY SKILLS HANDBOOK
I would just like to remind families of the access all students have to the Study Skills Handbook. Given our time in remote learning and that all students will be completing examinations at the conclusion of Semester 2, this resource provides many good pointers for students regarding strategies for studying and committing learning to memory.
Access to the Handbook is as follows:
