Principal's Report

I find it incredible that we are in the last week of Term 3. The term has flown by, but I speak for all members of the school community when I say, we are all looking forward to a well-earned break. The uncertainty of what Term 4 will look like particularly for our senior students is a little unsettling. Fortunately, we have the technology and the experiences of last year to guide us through whatever presents.

The routine and predictability of school life has never been so important. I have been extremely proud of the professionalism of my staff. They continue to provide engaging lessons and regularly speak to students with the view of ensuring they are travelling okay.

Our senior VCE students have continued to complete coursework and SACs/SATs. They are on schedule to finish the course and they have all received a package this week with trial exams for each subject. This week students have completed their trial exams which will be returned to school and sent to teachers for assessment. This will support all students with individualised areas to revise and work on for the end of year exams. The GAT is still scheduled for 5th October.

Our senior VCAL students have met with some challenges particularly around VET and Work placement. Teachers are looking to ensure all competencies are met by all students.

The Remote Learning Legends are recognised for great work and participation in Year 7-9.

Transition meetings are being held with all feeder primary schools. This is through WebEx and has been very successful. WebEx allows us to speak to students and parents about what to expect when they join the Mornington Secondary College community. It has also enabled parents and students to ask questions.

Academic Best conferences have now taken place for over 1000 students and more will occur in Term 4.

They have been extremely positive for students, staff and parents. NAPLAN results have been sent to families and they will be used when conferences occur for Yr 7 and Yr 9 students. NAPLAN analysis is currently taking place with staff.

Work has begun on The Hands On Learning program. The College is working closely with the Save the Children Association and DET to ensure the program offered at Mornington Secondary College is a very structured program that will benefit our students.

I am very pleased to announce, Mornington Secondary College has become the base school for Headstart (please note this is not the program we run at the end of the year). Headstart is a new model for apprenticeships and traineeships for school students. Head Start students spend more time doing important, paid, on-the-job training while completing their VCE or VCAL at school. The program helps students to develop skills and experience that employers value.  Head Start helps students to get the best start in their career’.  This may mean students could take an extra year to complete their VCE or VCAL. We are part of a cluster between Carrum Downs SC, Mt Erin SC and Somerville SC.

Enjoy the holidays
