RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS: This term our whole school focus is unpacking Gender and Identity (Topic 7 and 8 of Respectful Relationships). Stay tuned to future newsletters to gain a further understanding of the content explored at each year level. Learning activities within this topic assist students to challenge stereotypes and critique the influence of gender stereotypes on attitudes and behaviour. They learn about key issues relating to human rights, gender, identity and focus on the importance of respect within relationships. The activities promote respect for diversity and difference.

Teacher will engage in professional development to support their facilitation of this topic in the coming weeks. We hope, details pending, to hold our Grade 5/6 Movie Night (as was planned last term) in week 5 (Thursday August 12) to launch our focus and commitment in this area.

An important piece that contributes to the growing understanding in our students of gender roles and stereotypes begins with us, as adults. We’ll be sharing information each week via the newsletter to further inform our own understanding of how we can support change.
